Why
The term "Root2Being" is a play on words, and symbolises three important aspects of the authors journey as she fought to discover the true cause behind her suffering.
Root Short for Root Cause Analysis, a business tool used to find the root cause of a problem. Its' essence has been used in Root2Being to refer to the human body, where we need to try and find the root cause of one or more health problems affecting a person.
Using the technique each problem, or symptom is identified. All potential contributing factors are then analysed and assessed, and by using experience, knowledge and common sense, the original underlying or root cause is sought.
Put simply, to practice Root Cause Analysis means to continually ask the question"Why?" . At the point you can no longer answer this question, you have found the root cause. In many cases, a great number of seemingly unrelated problems can be traced back to one common underlying cause. By acting on the root cause and correcting this, those resultant and otherwise confusing problems will improve or disappear.
Let's take an example from the author's story:
- Why do I have back pain? - Because I have functional scoliosis
- Why do I have functional scoliosis? - Because my body is out of alignment
- Why is my body out of alignment? - Because my feet are not aligned properly (not everyone will see this connection straight away)
- Why are my feet not aligned properly? - Because I was born with feet that are attached to my legs at an angle (inverted relative to the leg)
- Why was I born with feet that are not properly aligned with my legs?- Who knows!
As yet, we don't know the answer to the last question, but what the authors' and others' experience has shown is that by altering and optimising the function of the foot through the gait cycle (this usually involves the use of custom functional orthoses), the body will be re-aligned, the functional scoliosis will disappear and the pain will go away.
If, on the other hand, we were to only treat the resultant back pain through drugs, manipulative adjustments and/or physical therapy and not recognise the underlying cause, the back pain will remain, even though different treatments may help or improve it in the short term. In addition, the health of the entire body will remain compromised.
2 This represents a journey of education, awareness and discovery, which begins as you search to find the root cause.
It continues on all levels: physical, emotional and spiritual, after successfully identifying and correcting the underlying problem. As your body is released from the force of constant adaptation and the grip of the resultant pain, it can begin to heal.
Being This represents the changes that take place as you experience the effect of stabilising the foundation. From the author's own experience, these changes transcend beyond anything you could ever medically engineer to occur. By controlling the underlying root cause, the body is able to begin healing itself, rather than relying on drugs, manipulative therapies or other treatments to control the resultant pain for the rest of your life.
From the shape and strength of your body to the increased clarity and ability of your mind, the combined effect of reduced pain and improved health means that it is not just your physical, emotional or spritual aspects that benefit, but your entire being.
For those who are familiar with the concepts of "doing" and "being" as discussed in the books "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People", by Steven Covey, and "The Art of Effortless Living", by Dr. Ingrid Bacci, stabilising your foundation removes many of the obstacles that hinder or prevent the transition from a "doing" into a "being" frame of mind.
