It all sounds to good to be true... a digital gaitscan assessment shows you problems you never thought you had and a pair of prescription orthoses designed directly from that scan reduces pain, relieves stress and halts continued wear and tear on weightbearing joints.

You would be forgiven for thinking that this is some sort of miracle cure - a way of making yet more money out of those desparate to rid themselves of pain and discomfort.

It shouldn't be you who is worried - just think how many less visits you'll need to your chiropractor, oesteopath or physiotherapist. Won't they be the ones missing out? Here's a sneaky bit of news for you - some healthcare practitioners initially expressed concerns about using such digital gaitscanning packages for this very reason - they were worried that if it is so successful, they wouldn't have as many repeat visits and hence wouldn't make as much money.

The truth is, of course, that more successful outcomes means greater patient satisfaction which in turn means more referrals and hence better business sense. Relying too heavily on repeat treatments does nothing for long term patient health and satisfaction, or for the business.

and there's more...

It's not just your muscles and bones that benefit. Less stress, better posture and better functioning joints means you'll feel healthier, happier and more satisfied with life. If foot function is an underlying cause of your health problems, then you've already probably discovered that no other treatment option offers so much to ensure your long-term health and wellbeing.

So what's the catch?

The use of orthoses to optimise foot function is only the start. Whilst you will notice improvements in your levels of pain by just wearing your orthoses, there is so much more you can do to optimise your health and cash in on your new found stability. Your body has spent years adapting to and compensating for abnormal foot function, so you''ll be in for some big changes as you get used to wearing your orthoses. Mostly these changes will give you a new lease of life, but some may be painful or difficult to deal with, although they won't last long.

The good news is there are plenty of ways you can help your body as it adapts to it's new found stability. From choosing different seating to changing what you eat, learning Alexander Technique to re-educate your body how to move and deciding on new and different forms of exercise, a whole world of opportunity suddenly opens up, if you are prepared to grasp it.

Cynical, skeptical and dubious you may be, but I'll bet you're just a tinsy be curious to know whether you have abnormal foot function.....

In the future, we hope to include personal stories of those who have taken the plunge, but in the meantime, the following links should help you to weigh up the pros and cons.
