My Story 5
I returned to my normal chiropractor, described the situation and asked for an explanation. This led to a full re-assessment of me lying prone, supine, sitting, standing and bending, and finally an X-ray of my lumbar spine. However, all of these tests proved inconclusive - the leg length variation was indeed variable depending on the position in which it was assessed, and the result was that he really did not know what was causing my suffering. The only advice he was able to give was that no-one is born straight, or free of pain and that we all have to learn to live with it. He also recommended that if I was feeling unable to cope, I should consider a course in pain management training. Actually being able to see the X-ray of my lumbar spine, as it clearly showed my unlevel hips and twisted spine, was a very powerful tool that provided me with the impetus I needed to begin to resurrect my practically non-existent self-belief. Faced with the only option, provided by those who I considered to know best, of having to continue to deal with what I had already lived with for the best part of my life, something inside me told me I could not continue to function like this. I refused to believe that my only option was to sit back and watch helplessly, at the mercy of drugs, attempts at exercise that seemed unduly difficult and symptomatic relief in the form of chiropractic care whilst the rest of my life, health and happiness were gradually eroded away. Furthermore, a liberal dose of common sense and 4 years of scientific-based training in the field of geology told me what I was seeing was not put there by nature. The twisted contorted structure I now knew to be my body simply had to be created by some force; a force which neither I nor any of the chiropractors or the podiatrist knew anything about. |
